Privacy Policy
Last updated 20 September 2026. This policy applies specifically to First Dials, operated as part of the Watchgauge HQ ecosystem. Please also read our Terms & Conditions and Listing Data & Sources Notice.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how Watchgauge HQ (trading as First Dials; we, us, our) handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and, where it applies to you, the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Watchgauge HQ is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
It covers our website, applications, alert communications and related services (the Service). It applies to visitors, free account holders, paid members and participating dealer users.
2. Personal information we collect
Account information: name, email address, password credential (stored only as a hash by our authentication provider), and your plan, trial and role status.
Preferences and activity: saved searches, alert channel choices, filters, watches and references you view, and alerts we have sent you.
Billing information: subscription status and payment records. Card details are collected and stored by our payment provider, not by us.
Technical information: IP address, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referring URLs, timestamps and error diagnostics.
Communications: messages you send us, including support enquiries.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and ask that you do not send it to us.
3. How we collect it
Directly from you when you register, subscribe, configure alerts, contact us, or use the Service; automatically through cookies and server logs; and from service providers such as our authentication, hosting, analytics and email providers. Where a dealer nominates a staff user, we may collect that person's business contact details from the dealer.
4. Google sign-in data
If you choose Continue with Google, First Dials asks Google only for the basic account information needed to sign you in: your name, email address, profile picture (if available) and Google's unique account identifier. We do not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, contacts, payment information or passwords.
We use this information only to create, authenticate, secure and support your First Dials account, associate your saved searches and subscription access with that account, and communicate with you about the Service. We store the account identifier, name, email address and profile information in our secured authentication and account systems for as long as your account remains active or as otherwise required by law.
Google user data is shared only with service providers that operate our authentication, hosting, database, communications and security infrastructure on our behalf, and only as needed to provide those services. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or share it with dealers or other third parties for their own marketing purposes.
You can stop using Google sign-in by removing First Dials from the third-party connections in your Google Account. To request deletion of your First Dials account and associated Google account data, email support@watchgaugehq.com. Removing the Google connection does not by itself delete records we must retain for legal, fraud-prevention, billing or security purposes.
5. Why we use it
To create and administer your account and verify access to paid features; to deliver the Service, including search, benchmarking, saved searches and price alerts by email; to process subscriptions and billing; to provide support; to secure the Service, detect misuse, enforce our Terms and comply with the law; and to analyse aggregated usage so we can improve accuracy, performance and coverage.
We use your mobile number only for account and alert messaging you have enabled, and never sell it.
Marketing: we may send you service-related updates and offers. Every marketing message includes an unsubscribe mechanism. Transactional and account messages are necessary to your account and continue while it is open.
6. Legal bases and consent
We collect and use personal information because it is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities, or with your consent (for example when you enable email alerts). You can withdraw consent for optional processing at any time by changing your notification settings or contacting us, though this may limit features.
7. Who we disclose it to
Service providers who help us operate the Service, including cloud hosting and database providers, authentication providers, email delivery providers, payment processors, analytics and error-monitoring providers. They are permitted to use the information only to provide services to us.
Stripe (stripe.com) processes payments for our subscriptions. When you purchase a subscription, Stripe and its affiliates collect and process the information needed to complete the sale, manage your subscription, process payments, prevent fraud, comply with tax obligations and issue receipts. Stripe handles payment card details under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your full card number.
Others where required or permitted by law, to enforce our Terms, to protect the rights and safety of any person, or in connection with a sale or restructure of our business (subject to equivalent privacy protections).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not disclose your identity to a dealer unless you contact that dealer yourself or ask us to.
8. Overseas disclosure
Some providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where we disclose personal information overseas we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with the APPs, including through contractual protections.
9. Security and retention
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, database row-level security and least-privilege administrative access. No system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and thereafter only as long as needed for legitimate business, accounting, dispute-resolution and legal-compliance purposes, after which we delete or de-identify it.
Where we are required to notify an eligible data breach under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by law.
10. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and to remember preferences, and analytics cookies to understand aggregate usage. You can control cookies in your browser, but disabling necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in.
11. Access, correction and complaints
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated data, by emailing support@watchgaugehq.com. We will respond within a reasonable period and will explain our reasons if we refuse a request as permitted by law.
If you believe we have breached the APPs, contact us first at support@watchgaugehq.com and we will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
12. Children
The Service is not directed at children and is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, and we will give notice of material changes by email or a prominent in-product notice before the change takes effect where reasonably practicable. Contact: support@watchgaugehq.com.
